Siping is located at the convergence of Jilin, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia. The city plays an important transportation hub in northeast China. Siping features low transportation costs which is why modern commercial logistics thrives in the city.
Siping is known as one of the birthplaces of the Manchu. Numerous Manchu relics are preserved in the Yitong Manchu Folk Museum. The city is known as the national key commodity grain production base in China, being awarded one of three granaries in northeast China.
